Submission guidelines

General Policy

MycoKing publishes reviews, research articles, methodology papers, short communications, comments, opinions, taxonomic works such as monographs, and checklists. The official journal language is English.

Manuscript preparation – General requirements

A proper and quick processing of your manuscript requires a clean manuscript, both in terms of its scientific content and formatting. Detailed information on the layout/template can be found in ‘Template_MycoKing’, or download the most recently published papers.

Generally, the main text in the manuscript, including legends for illustrations, should be written in Times New Roman, 12-point, single-spaced throughout. Latin names of genera and species must be italicized. Hyphenation must be avoided throughout the manuscript.

No special formatting options should be used. All pages should be numbered in the bottom right corner of each page. The new scientific names should be registered in Index Fungorum (see www.indexfungorum.org) or MycoBank (see https://www.mycobank.org), and the corresponding number(s) should be added to the new taxon description.

Submission of manuscripts

MycoKing accepts only manuscripts that comply with the journal's regulations. Manuscripts that are not prepared according to our template are sent back for reformatting.

Electronic submission guidelines

First submission

Two word files of properly structured/formatted manuscripts containing the full text, including tables and figures/plates, one with author names, affiliations, and acknowledgement, and the other without author names, affiliations, and acknowledgement.

The names, affiliations, and emails of three potential referees are listed in the body of the email.

Important: The plates and tables should be placed in the text at the appropriate point where you would like them to be published.

Submission of revised manuscripts

Accepted manuscripts must be revised and submitted by carefully following the formatting instructions, and they should be submitted as a revised final version ready for publication, including high-quality figures and tables. If the manuscript has not been structured/formatted in the journal style, it is sent back for further formatting.

Figures in the revised version should be sent separately as JPEG files. Electronic figures must be captured at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Single photographs that need to be mounted together are not acceptable.

Article processing charges

MycoKing does not charge for publication, including color plates.

Tables, figures, and legends

Prepare tables using the table format feature of your word processor and ensure that each data entry is in its own cell. Avoid using tabs, spaces, graphics, or boxes. Tables, images, and illustrations must be referred to in the text.

Please note that all terms in the top-line and the left column must begin with a capital letter. Do not use vertical lines in tables.

All entries should be left-aligned. For mere numerical data, align the columns of numbers by their decimal points using a word processor's decimal tabs. Also, place a zero before the decimal point of numbers less than 1 (e.g., 0.1).

References

Please develop the format of references according to the Template_MycoKing. All citations should be listed alphabetically in the ‘References’ section. Refer to the reference format in the template. In the text, authors should be cited in chronological order. Use correct symbols at the correct places.

Proofs

Proofs are sent as PDF files to the author by email. They must be checked and returned within four working days. The MycoKing team is not responsible for errors not reported within four days by the authors.

Review process

1. Manuscripts are sent to the EIC to consider whether the manuscript is suitable for publication in MycoKing.

2. If the manuscript is deemed suitable, it is sent to a handling editor.

3. The handling editor sends the manuscript for peer review by at least two independent reviewers.

4. The reviewers send their recommendations to the handling editor.

5. The handling editor recommends minor revisions, major revisions, acceptance, resubmission, or decline the manuscript, and following improvements to the manuscript and possible further peer review, return the finalized manuscript and decision to the EIC.

6. The EIC makes the final decision over acceptance, and if accepted, forwards the final revised manuscript to the managing editor to prepare the final proofs.
